Story
There was once a poor old lady. She collected twigs and made brooms out of them. She sold these brooms for some bread and a bit of grain. Everyday she would give the grain to her chicken and the chicken would give her an egg to eat.
One day there was a harsh winter and the lady couldn't find any twigs to make her brooms. She had no other means to make money and so she could not buy grain for her chicken or food for herself. After a time the chicken would start eating its own eggs instead of giving them to the old lady to eat. The old lady fell very ill and a woodland fairy came and conjured up lots of tasty food for the old lady. She was very angry with the chicken for not helping the old lady that had treated her well all these years. As a punishment she turned the chicken into stone.
